Frequently Asked Questions

How are the opening hours planned? The Raplab plans the opening hours of both workshops once per semester, along the ETH lecture period. The team checks the plan, and the studio representatives of HIL and ONA review it: at the end of November for the spring semester, in early July for the autumn semester. After that, the hours are published here.

When are the workshops open?Monday to Friday, 09:00–18:00, from the first Monday of the lecture period until the Monday of the last lecture week (09:00–12:00). Public holidays of the Canton of Zurich are closed. In the last weeks of the semester the digital workshop at HIL also opens on weekends; the dates are in the calendar above.

What happens in the semester breaks? The workshops stay open with reduced hours, typically Monday to Thursday, 09:00–17:00. We publish the break hours at the end of each semester, depending on the team’s holidays and project work. In the two weeks directly before the semester, diploma students have priority at ONA.

Are there priorities at the end of the semester? At ONA, diploma students have priority in the diploma weeks and on the marked weekends.

How do I avoid the end-of-semester rush? The two weeks before the final week are the busiest of the whole semester. Plan your model building early, prepare and test your files before you come, and use the ONA workshop and the weekend hours at HIL when the machines are full.

Can the Raplab open additionally?Yes. Chairs can request additional opening days up to three months before the semester starts. After that, a chair can open the workshop for its own students if it provides trained staff to supervise them; student helpers cannot take on this role.

Whom do I contact about the opening hours?Your studio representative, or the Raplab at raplab@arch.ethz.ch.
